JEE Main result Evaluation – Change in Pattern:
This year 2 major changes in JEE Main 2017 result evaluation pattern, details are below.
- Class 12th marks weightage for JEE Main rank is no-longer available. This year JEE main 2017 rank will be calculated on the basis of JEE Main 2017 score.
- For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE (Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
It should be noted that qualification in JEE Main Paper 1 is a necessary condition to appear in the next leg of JEE i.e. JEE Advanced which is scheduled on 21st May, 2017.
What will be declared in the JEE Main 2017 results?
This year onwards, JAB has decided to suspend the weightage of board marks in the calculation of the JEE Main score of a candidate. Hence, the final scores of aspirants will no longer depend on the declaration of all the board results; thus, the candidate will find out their scores as well as their All India Ranks on 27th April itself!
JEE Main 2017 results would make several things clear for the candidates:
- For those not wanting to go for JEE Advanced, the declaration of AIRs so early would give them a lot of time (race against time phrase meaning) to figure out their options – which college they want to opt for, what branch they wish to apply to, whether they should prioritize branch over college etc. You can also check your branch here.
- For those wanting to go for JEE Advanced, their AIRs would give them a measure of the competition they will face in JEE Advanced, and help them prepare accordingly. JEE Main 2017 cutoffs:
A candidate needs a certain minimum number of marks in JEE Main 2017 to be considered eligible for JEE Advanced 2017. These marks constitute the cutoffs. This cutoff depends on various factors such as the difficulty level of the respective year’s paper, the number of applicants who appeared for the paper, and the number the officials wish to declare qualified for JEE Advanced. This year, top 2 lakh candidates will be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced – rising from the 1.5 lakh allowed during previous years.

Also, please remember that even though board scores are not to be counted from this year, they will STILL be a part of the cutoff for JEE Advanced 2017. For a candidate’s eligibility to stand, he/she must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in their board exams. If this criterion is not fulfilled, their candidature could be cancelled even if they cleared the JEE Main 2017 cutoffs and appeared for JEE Advanced 2017.
JEE Main Rank List:
As mentioned earlier, applicants will be made privy to their All India Ranks this when JEE Main 2017 results are declared. Hence, they might start planning their future course of action once they have the results in hand. Admission to NITs, IIITs and government and private colleges of various states will be done on the basis the JEE Main rank list.
JEE Main 2017 Answer Key:

JEE Main 2017 Counseling:
Like last year, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) will be holding common counseling for colleges giving admission through JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Hence, the counseling will begin once the JEE Advanced 2017 results have been declared, and the candidates given some time to ponder their choices.
JoSAA counseling 2017-18 is expected to begin in 4th week of June 2017, once results of JEE Advanced 2017 have been declared. Like the last 2 years, the counseling will be held in 4 steps: registration, filling and locking choices, seat acceptance and fee payment. All these steps will be in online mode. After these are done, document verification etc. will be done in the offline mode at centers that the candidates will select themselves.
