How to choose a suitable career option after 10th and 12th

Are you wondering what subjects to choose after 10th? Which stream will be the best career option for you? Are you confused between your dreams and bits of advice you get from others? Do you want to do something different in your life? No need to worry now, we are here with some tips that will make your decision-making process easier.

This is a crucial time (race against time phrase meaning) where you need to decide the best career option for yourself. It is okay to feel like you are standing in the middle of a junction and are struggling with choosing the right train to reach your destination. You may choose the way many people have traveled and reached their destination or go for the way which is less traveled.

This is for the first time in your life; you are facing a situation where you have to take (take with a grain of salt idiom synonym) some bold decisions towards your career. This might happen every time after reaching your set milestones in your life.

How to pick the Right Career Option?

1. In-depth knowledge of career options

The first and foremost task is to take in-depth knowledge of the career you wish to peruse. Most students are not aware of their destination and get influenced by misinformation or peer group and end up making wrong decisions. After getting clarity of all career options, start to sort by eliminating non-required options.

2. Assess Interests & Passion

Make a rational decision that makes it easier to work hard whole day and get a satisfying sleep at night. Choose the career which you feel you can do all your life and still won’t get bored of. You must follow your interests and passions. And the first step in this process is identifying which subject, topic or career option excites you.

3. Analyze your Strengths & Weaknesses

Every student has a unique set of skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Hence it is very important to take a unique decision for every student. Try to find your interest part by considering past activities and make the decision based on your strengths and weaknesses.

4. Identify the job scope

Make a list of jobs you find interesting, find job descriptions and academic requirements as well as future demand of those jobs. Analyze each stream according to your strength and interest so that you can work with enthusiasm and passion. Try to identify your long term and short term goals for better decision-making process.

5. Seek Help from Others

Take help from people who are experienced, have good knowledge of the market and know about the trending career options. If the person is from the area you are interested in, they will provide information according to the real scenario. Choose a person who understands you better and to whom you can express yourself better. It is necessary to keep all your dreams, passion, strengths and weaknesses in front of that person to select a better career path. You may also take guidance from a qualified educational counselor, it will also help your parents understand the trending job opportunities and provide an idea of the whole process of getting you enrolled in a suitable stream.

6. Confusion from too many options

Sit down, keep paper and pen in hand. Now think about your area of interest and ask some questions to yourself like am I good at solving problems or do I like to manage things? What is my part of interest? Which sector will be suitable to work for me? Don’t be confused with lots of options. Follow elimination strategy and just (just in case definition) eliminate options that you don’t want to work and do some research on the options you find suitable for you.

The myth that Science has a limited career option –

It is a myth that science is the subject that has only a few career options like engineering and medical but the scenario is different. The biggest advantage that a science student has is that it allows them to switch streams to Arts or Commerce after Class 12th, at graduation level. On the other hand, Arts or Commerce students don’t have opportunities in the science stream. It’s not just limited to opt one of three major disciplines (science, arts or commerce), you have many interesting career options to select for a lifetime and earn good amount with satisfaction. Even science provides you various options in engineering and medical. Few of the interesting ones are:

  • Commercial Pilot training
  • Diploma Course in Fire Safety and Technology
  • Merchant Navy related courses
  • Pharm D
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Pharmacy.
  • Animation, Graphics, and Multimedia
  • Web Development and Designing
  • Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Product designing and development
  • Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture)
  • BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery)
  • P.Ed. (Diploma in Physical Education)
  • Bachelor of Statistics
  • Air Hostess training

Science is the subject that almost every parent wants their child to continue as a career. If a student is planning to opt science they must have good analytical skills, spirit to work hard and curiosity to know the logic behind trivial things happening around us, like why stars are so bright? How this universe is made?, etc. They must naturally take a keen interest in solving problems, unveiling mysteries and deciphering the logic behind all phenomena.

Before you start, you must decide.

Starting or initiating any task of life needs a strong decision making. You have to be courageous enough to take action in your opinion. The idea is to decide smartly in your life.

Don’t make out your steps moving forward in the direction in which all others are walking. Never get attracted to bright illusions because not everything that glitters is gold!
